Victoria doesn’t have its own LGBT neighborhood. Rather, it has something far better—a total integration of the gay and lesbian community within the greater community for a city that celebrates true equality. In fact, all visitors to Victoria feel so safe and welcome that it was voted among the Top Canadian Cities by CMI’s 11th Annual LGBT Travel Survey several years ago, and the waving rainbow flag is a common sight from many a European-style balcony, art gallery, antique shop, restaurant, and bar.
Other additions to Victoria’s old world charm include world-class hotels, a distinctly British flavor, decadent dining, exceptional seafood and wine, and some of the best microbreweries on Canada’s west coast. But in this naturally gorgeous destination, its outdoor attractions should not be missed. The famous Butchart Gardens are wonderful for strolling with your partner or family. If the latter includes a four-legged member, visit during the Big Gay Dog Walk. Literally all are warmly welcome in this idyllic Pacific Coast island destination.
Rising regally on Victoria's spectacular Inner Harbor, The Fairmont Empress showcases the spirit and energy of Vancouver Island in grand style. With her turn-of-the-century beauty, The Fairmont Empress captures the grandeur and elegance of a bygone era, while her facilities and services meet the needs of today's traveler.
